The island’s history dates back to the early 1890’s when the cholera epidemic haunted Europe. Sweden decided that the island Fejan would be the eastern barrier where all ships had to quarantine until they were declared cholera-free. Our kayak barn is the old gasworks where the gas to disinfect the ships where made. You can still see the foundation of the gasometers in the floor.
